CAMO ISN'T ONE LOOK.
AND THERE'S NO ONE WAY TO PRINT IT.

What transfers work best on camouflage? It depends on what you want the decoration to do. We paired four different camo garments with four HCT decoration approaches to show how opacity, color, texture and transparency can completely change the finished piece.

The Camo Comparison

SAME CAMO. SAME DESIGN. THREE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RESULTS.

There isn't one “best” result. Product choice changes the personality of the finished piece: opacity, intentional bleed-through or dimensional texture.

Camo decoration FAQ

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT PRINTING ON CAMO

Camouflage adds pattern, color and sometimes fabric-specific considerations before the transfer ever hits the heat press. These are the questions worth answering first.

What heat transfer works best on camouflage?

There is no single best transfer for every camo garment. Start with the effect you want: Howard Multi-Purpose for clean, opaque screen print coverage; Neon for high contrast; Puff for raised texture and dimension; or Vintage Wash when you want some of the camo pattern to influence the finished design.

Can you use Puff transfers on camo?

Yes. Puff can create a strong dimensional contrast against a busy camouflage pattern. It works especially well when texture is part of the design rather than simply a way to add another color.

How do you make a design stand out on a busy camo pattern?

Prioritize contrast, legibility and intentional placement. An opaque transfer or a bright color such as Neon can separate the artwork from the camouflage, while bold shapes and simpler artwork can help the design read clearly from a distance.

Can the camo pattern show through the transfer?

It can when that is the intended effect. Vintage Wash is designed for a softer, worn-in appearance that allows more interaction between the garment and the printed design, making the camouflage part of the finished look.

Do camo garments need special dye-migration protection?

Some garments and decoration combinations can require additional protection from dye migration. In the Bucks Football example, HCT used Howard Multi-Purpose with a custom dye-block configuration. That option is available through consultation with an HCT sales rep rather than as a standard product selection.

Should I test a transfer before decorating camo garments?

Testing is a smart step whenever the garment, fabric, coating or decoration combination is unfamiliar. A sample press lets you evaluate adhesion, appearance, contrast and the finished effect before committing to a full run.

WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR CAMO TO DO?

Start with the finished effect you want. The transfer changes how the pattern reads.

The right transfer isn't determined by the garment alone. It's determined by what you're trying to create.
